GENERAL

What services do you provide?

College Storage & Student Services (CSSS) provides summer storage, domestic/international shipping, study abroad storage and moving supplies exclusively for students living on private campuses and campuses with large international student populations.

What separates CSSS from other college storage services?

We bridge the gap between exceptional customer service and affordable student services. We are the first to be focused exclusively on private campuses, international shipping, and exceptional customer service. On occasion we’ve been known to help students and parents who are not our customers load and unload boxes.

We also support sustainability by reducing the carbon foot print on campuses. Using our services can reduce the number of cars coming onto campus during move-out/in thereby reducing emissions output, fuel consumption and congestion. We use recyclable packing materials and like to participate in Earth Day events.

Why is the word “Hoopla” used?

The term “hoopla” is a noun referring to “bustling excitement or activity”. Once you experience our expedient and courteous service by our customer focused professionals we think you’ll be saying “hoopla!”

How does summer storage service work?

After reading and agreeing to the Terms & Conditions customers then sign-up and order moving supplies and schedules a pick-up and delivery date and time. We provide Room Service delivery of moving supplies prior to move-out week. On your move-out day our customer focused team arrives at your room and pick-ups your items for storage and shipping.

On move-day we provide room delivery service of your stored items. Our staff is a phone call away and ready to assist.

STORAGE

What can I put into storage?

While there are some restrictions on what can be stored, our unique storage service offers the convenience of storing furniture, computers, packed boxes, mirrors, bikes, plastic tubes and just about most items in your room. Please refer to our Terms & Conditions for a list of items that cannot be stored and insurance limitations.

Does CSSS offer Study Abroad storage?

Yes. Our fee for this service is priced per semester after the usual summer storage term rate ends.

STORAGE FACILITY

Where are my items stored?

We use only the best climate controlled storage facilities. Storage facilities meet the highest standards for security and maintain a constant temperature year round. They must also have a scheduled maintenance service for pests.

What does “climate controlled” storage mean?

Climate controlled storage is the best way for your items to spend the summer. Climate controlled storage can prevent damage to furniture, fabrics, electronics, artwork and many other valuables. Moisture can cause warping or mold in poorly ventilated places, particularly if you live in an unusually humid, hot or cold environment. We inspect and insure facilities are maintained on a regular basis and meet our high standards for compliance.

Can I store items mid-summer?

Yes. Just sign-up, order supplies, schedule a pick-up and delivery date and time and we’ll do the rest. After all its summer and time to have fun, not deal with moving. We offer short term storage but have minimums. Please refer to our pricing page for more information.

Can I access my items anytime?

Yes. Access is available during the year with a minimum 5 business day notice. An extra fee will apply. Please see the Terms & Conditions for more information.

What colleges/universities do you serve?

Currently we serve the Southern California area. If we’re not at your school let your res life or dean of students know about us. You can always contact us about serving your campus. You just might be eligible to receive a cash incentive once we have an exclusive agreement with your campus.

Does CSSS have a student incentive program?

YES! If we’re not exclusively on your campus contact your Residence Life Housing Office or Dean of Students and let them know about us. If we’re successful at being exclusive on your campus as a direct result of your efforts you could get an incentive to help pay for housing! The incentive amount depends on how many students we serve and is paid out to the campus you helped us serve. Please see our Terms & Conditions for details.

SHIPPING

Can you ship my things from campus?

Yes. We provide shipping to virtually any domestic location. What sets us apart form others is we also provide international shipping. Want can ship to China, India, Europe or other international destinations. We can also handle items being shipped to campus from almost anywhere in the world.

How does the shipping service work?

When you sign-up let us know if you have items to be shipped. We’ll pick-up your items for shipping at the same time we pick-up items for storage. If you have items just for shipping we’ll pick them up on your move-out day and time. We provide shipping forms that you place on the box. These forms are used to process your shipments.

How much does it cost to ship?

Shipping rates are determined by our carriers. We use multiple carriers to handle our shipping and get the best rates. Rates are based on destination zip code, weight, dimensions, value of items being shipped and any added insurance. When shipping domestically the first $100 of declared value (insurance) is FREE! NOTE: Shipping to a commercial address and zip code get the best rate.

How Do I ship internationally?

We arrange for shipping your items to-and-from campus. First, provide information on our sign-up page the address and country to pick-up items. Next, let us know what’s being shipped, how many boxes, weight, dimensions and value (U.S. currency) of each box. Your items will be picked up and then shipped directly to us for delivery to your campus.

International shipping rates are based on the same criteria as domestic rates with the exception of getting items through customs and possible country imposed taxes and tariffs imposed by a country. Restrictions may exist on items to be shipped into a country. These restrictions are controlled by customs in each individual country. Do you provide packing materials?

Yes. We encourage you to order our packing materials. Since most people get bored hearing about the technicalities of cardboard boxes we’ll spare you the long winded version by saying used boxes typically are weak and the integrity has been compromised to withstand stacking in storage.

As a supporter of sustainable campuses we offer recycled and biodegradable moving supplies. The week prior to move-out we deliver packing materials to your room for FREE! Please remember we’re not able to provide a refund or credit for unused materials so order what you think you’ll need. We can always provide additional materials if needed.

PICK-UP/DELIVERY SERVICE

How do I schedule pick-up or delivery?

Let’s discuss how easy it is. Based on your campus schedule you have the control when we come by and pick-up your items. Sign-up on our web site, select a pick-up and delivery date and time and our courteous customer focused moving associates will arrive to pick-up your items. Once we receive your sign-up we’ll reply with a confirmation. Most campuses allow us to make Room Service pick-ups and deliveries. It’s that easy!

What happens if I can’t be present for the pick-up or delivery?

We’re glad to pick-up your items from a roommate, friend or other designated person. Just let us know prior to your scheduled pick-up date and time. We know it’s a bummer but we may have to charge a delayed pick-up or redelivery fee if we’re not notified prior to your pick-up or delivery. If your campus allows it, we may deliver items to your room prior to move-in so when you open your door they’re waiting for you! Please see our Terms & Conditions for details.

Can you pick-up my items off-campus?

Absolutely yes! Off-campus students need not worry about getting moved out. If you live within a 5 mile radius of your campus our moving associates will be glad to come to you. Need help disassembling that bed or other furniture? Let us know. For a small fee we’ll take care of that for you. Are you outside a 5 mile radius from campus? We can still help. Just give a call or email us for pricing.

I don’t know the Residence Hall I’m moving into. What do I need to do?

When possible we work with Residential Life offices to know where to deliver your items. If this isn’t available we’ll contact you 2 weeks prior to move-in for the information prior. Either way our room service delivery will make sure your items are back when you need them.

DECLARED VALUE PROTECTION

What is Declared Value Protection (DCP)?

Declared Value Protection (DCP) is automatic coverage protection for your items while in storage. We provide $100.00 of coverage protection per item. If additional insurance is required we suggest collegestudentinsurance.com.

What about coverage protection for shipping?

Our carrier has a $10,000.00 per shipped box limit. The cost for additional coverage is $3.50 per $100 over the first $100. The first $100 is FREE! There are limitations on what can be shipped. Please see our Terms & Conditions for what cannot be shipped.

International shipping may have restrictions on what can be shipped into a country. These restrictions are controlled by each individual country. If you would like to ship international please call us for more information.

PAYMENT

How do I pay for services?

We offer the convenience of paying by credit card at the time we pick-up your items. Payment for shipping is collected once it’s determined the cost for shipping. Typically we call you for a credit card once shipping has been completed. Please review our Terms & Conditions for more details about payment.

What forms of payment do you take?

Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Unfortunately we do not accept cash or checks.

How much is it for storage?

Our storage fees are based on per item weight and dimensions. Using our boxes provides the best value and protection for storage. Prices may vary depending on the weight and dimensions of other boxes used.

How do I cancel my service?

The best way to cancel is to send us an email or call prior to your scheduled date. There are guidelines for cancellation. Remember, there are no refunds on moving supplies. Please see Terms & Conditions for more information.

What additional fees are there?

Additional fees may be incurred if guidelines are not followed. Our Terms & Conditions explains any additional fees that might be charged.
